1998, from an article about Samaritans
These photographs are part of my first assignment for Life. The Samaritans are a sect that split from Judaism during the 6th century B.C. and was persecuted, in turn, by Jews, Christians and Muslims. In the Fifties, 300 of them were still surviving in Nablus (which then belonged to Jordan) and celebrating their Passover according to a traditional ritual, on their sanctuary of Mount Gerizim.
